Jazcom was founded in December 2008 on a property at Orangeville, with our first horse arriving for a spell from Clarry Conners, who is still a supporter of our business today.
Jazcom has progressively grown over the years, and through this growth we have developed strong relationships with a number of key industry trainers and owners.
Colin is the key to Jazcom’s success. His passion for the horse industry started as a young boy, doing work prior to school riding stock horses. Colin’s first job in the thoroughbred industry was with John Poletti, which included stablehand work, riding, breaking and handling of young horses. He then worked with Peter Miers and Jack Denham as a stablehand.
Colin then decided to start training himself, he obtained his training license in 1989, and although training 200 winners he decide that all his hard efforts were not paying off and after 13 years as a trainer decided that it was time for a change.
In 2001 Colin was fortunate enough to be given the job as Foreman to Clarry Conners. The 2.5 years spent at Clarry’s stables provided Colin with more valuable knowledge of the Racing Industry and allowed him the experience to manage the daily care of top line horses such as Belle Du Jour, Viking Ruler and Rose Archway to name a few.
Colin then felt that he wanted to broaden his knowledge in the Racing Industry so turned his focus to the breeding and spelling side of racing. Colin spent 5.5 years managing the breeding and spelling of thoroughbreds, during this period he gained more valuable experience in breeding, sale preparation, breaking in, handling of foals/weanlings and yearlings, hospitalisation and rehabilitation.
Meagan, is the backbone and support for Colin and the business. A keen horsewoman since a little girl, riding horses after school and spending school holidays on her Grandfathers property in the Hunter Valley, helping work his farm, gaining experience in all aspects of farm management. An avid Pony Club member during her teenage years, with every available moment spent riding her horses.
Meagan’s career was in the Financial Services Industry, during this period she working for Bankers Trust, Westpac and HSBC, holding managerial positions at all institutions. Meagan holds a Diploma in Financial Services and has studied Horse Industry specific courses at TAFE.
After 18 years in the Financial Services Industry, Meagan followed her passion for horses and was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to manged the office of Shipton Lodge Thoroughbreds.
All of Colin and Meagan’s work and life experiences now allow them to be the successful owners of Jazcom.
